some blah blah blah about essential oils
i’m learning a lot about essential oils as i’m embarking on my hollyhobbyness, and also learning just how much i (and many others of my generation) take plants for granted…especially when you think in terms of the medical uses.
i also have to respect the cautions. two of my favorite essential oils, grapefruit & bergamot are phototoxic and have to be used with caution. phototoxicity to put it plainly means will burn you if exposed to strong sunlight. in the united states, most of the bergamot oil sold has the strongest phototoxic element (bergaptene) removed, however it’s advisable not to use it if you plan on going tanning (but tanning is something i don’t advise much of anyway). strong sunlight exposure isn’t that much of a threat in the northwest either.
still, it’s very interesting. bergamot oil is used in so many perfumes and soaps that you’re probably coming across it more than you think. it ties aromas together like a neat little bow so it’s wonderful for blending.
grapefruit oil is a remarkable, uplifting scent that is my favorite S.A.D. combatant. the fruit definitely smells better than it tastes to most people but personally, i love to eat it with a little sugar.
and anyway. stuff & things. happy last monday before artan.
