bummer

despite my previous whining about the weather, i actually am disappointed that it didn’t snow last night as they (the irreverent they) said it would.

you simply cannot make a promise like that to an eight year old like me. apparently we should have moved to snohomish, where they have real weather.

here’s something else that’s got me cooking…my coworker came in with some cocoa for me (which was awesome) and told me that she’d seen a couple police cars had somebody pulled over out in front of the sushi & starbucks building (aka the metropolitan) but when she got close she saw that it was just some old dude sitting in his car. i’ve been seeing this a lot around here. why the double teaming? i would figure that they would need a pair if they were doing DUI testing or had to get somebody out of the car but why are they doing it for a moving violation? aren’t there seatbelt laws to enforce out there? i would appreciate it if someone would explain that to me. otherwise it’s just an unnecessary spectacle.

police are authorized to run an NCIC check for stolen vehicles any time they pull someone over for a moving violation. if they’re quick enough, or sneaky enough, they can also run the person’s ID for any outstanding arrest warrants.

if the car was stolen or the person has an outstanding arrest they might call for backup for safety reasons. this is especially (and obviously) true if the warrant was for a violent crime.

finally, they might also have some other reason to believe that the person in the vehicle is dangerous (e.g. vehicle matching that description involved in a recent violent crime or whatever).

basically there are a zillion reasons why they might be doing it. of course it’s also possible they might just be dicks, but it seems unlikely to me that the cops are going to waste their own time by doing that stuff unless it’s reasonably necessary — and i’m no police apologist.
